Are CEO and Corporate Blogs any good?

Easton at BusinessBlogWire has investigated some of the most popular CEO and Corporate Blogs to find out whether they are any good? What he found:

For the most part, yes. But there are glaring problems with many of the corporate blogs and company CEO blogs that are most highly ranked in Technorati. There should be a group of people that regularly dredges that field for weeds, pests and broken glass. I’ve done some initial poking around and I hope you’ll fact-check me.

On July 16, Mario Sundar at Marketing Nirvana posted his "Top 10 Corporate Blogs," having scoured Technorati’s rankings to find the ten corporate blogs with the highest number of domains linking to them. Mario did a great job, and I told him I’m willing to help him tabulate such rankings in the future.

As I analyzed the top ten in Mario’s list, I saw some problems

Text Link AdsAt the end Easton suggests a Corporate Blog Watch Group but i disagree as I believe instead that perhaps the ranking system is flawed somehow. If a blog isn’t being updated or claimed then I am of the opinion that it should be sliding down the rankings to make way for blogs that actually belong there.

Greg, maybe we’re thinking of two different things. By “watch group” I just meant a cadre of bloggers, however loosely organized, that would pay close attention to good and bad practices by corporate blogs. It sounds to me like you’re thinking more of a group that would collaboratively identify the top-ranked corporate blogs on a regular basis. Let me know if that’s accurate.

Either way, your main point is very true - in general, blog posts lose value over time, particularly if they’re news-oriented as opposed to “timeless tip”-oriented. So the Technorati ranking system is perhaps misleading at times when it places rarely-updated blogs high in its rankings simply because they have a lot of links coming in.

And yeah - miss leading for sure but i guess there is no easy and fair fix
